Cari Lapique Remembers Late Husband and Daughter Two Years On

Spanish socialite Cari Lapique spent August in Sotogrande with family, marking two years since her husband Carlos Goyanes and daughter Caritina died in August 2024. Lapique said she was having a very quiet summer alongside her sister Myriam, her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and friends, while eagerly awaiting the end of her most painful month of the year.

The tragic sequence of events began on August 7, 2024, when businessman Carlos Goyanes died in his sleep at the family house in Guadalmina, a residential area of Marbella on Spain's Costa del Sol. Goyanes had spent part of the previous evening watching a Real Madrid football match before going to bed. On the morning of his death, Lapique had traveled to a flea market in Sotogrande with her sister and a group of friends, learning of the tragedy only when her daughter called to deliver the news.

Just 19 days later, on August 26, 2024, her daughter Caritina Goyanes died suddenly in Marbella at the age of 46. Known among acquaintances as a hard-working, generous, and warm person, Caritina left behind two children, Pedro and MiniCari. The family has remained tightly united following the double loss, gradually restoring their daily routines while maintaining their close bond.

Lapique is a well-known figure in Spanish high society, and her late husband was a prominent music producer and real estate businessman. The coastal resort of Sotogrande, located in Cadiz province in southern Spain, is known for its quiet residential enclave, while Marbella and Guadalmina are renowned destinations along the Mediterranean Costa del Sol.

Memorial Padel Tournament in Marbella

To honor her late father, Lapique's daughter Carla Goyanes organized a memorial sports tournament in Marbella last year. The inaugural padel championship achieved widespread success, prompting the family to host the second edition of the event this summer. Lapique recalled that Goyanes was talented at all sports, including football and tennis, and noted that her grandchildren inherited his athletic ability and excelled at padel. She added with a smile that it was rare for anyone to remember her holding a racket.

Although Lapique has not moved back into the villa in Guadalmina, she attended the memorial tournament in Marbella. She expressed deep pride in Carla's organizational skill and her resilience after the tragedies that reshaped their lives two years ago. Lapique's grandchildren, Pedro and MiniCari, have shown remarkable maturity, with Pedro affectionately calling his grandmother abuelona. As a tribute to Goyanes, Pedro asked for and now constantly wears a leather cord with a talisman pendant that his grandfather always wore around his neck.

Return to Professional Schedule

Once the summer season ends, Lapique plans to resume her professional work schedule. Friends and acquaintances close to Lapique continue to praise her personal warmth, kindness, and strength as the family moves forward together.
