Russian pop singer Philip Kirkorov has revealed that he underwent nose plastic surgery because of severe breathing problems that were disrupting his sleep.
The 59-year-old performer explained his decision while speaking to reporters on the red carpet at the New Wave music awards in Kazan. He said his nose was frequently congested, leaving him unable to rest properly at night and making the operation necessary.

Addressing the procedure, Kirkorov stated that he had not chosen to operate on his nose out of a good life or personal vanity. He emphasized that while performers should look after their appearance, the most important rule is not to get carried away with cosmetic treatments.
Warning against extreme transformations, the singer said patients must avoid transforming themselves into mummies through excessive surgery, noting that many public figures and Western celebrities have made that mistake. He added that he felt no shame or hesitation about speaking publicly about his surgical treatment.
Artist standards and surgeon assessment
According to news outlet Starhit, Kirkorov argued that maintaining physical appearance is a basic responsibility for public entertainers. He stated that any self-respecting artist must keep themselves in a condition that corresponds to the ticket prices paid by their audience.
The singer's surgical treatment had previously drawn professional interest earlier in the summer. In June, plastic surgeon Solomon Abramyan publicly evaluated the results of Kirkorov's rhinoplasty.
Pop career and host city context
Kirkorov is one of Russia's most prominent pop singers, known for his decades-long career, flamboyant stage persona, and representation of the country at the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest. Rhinoplasty is a medical procedure that modifies the structure of the nose, commonly performed to repair nasal passages, restore unhindered airflow, or alter physical appearance.
The New Wave festival where he delivered his comments is an annual international competition for young popular music performers established in 2002. The event took place in Kazan, the capital of Russia's Republic of Tatarstan, which regularly serves as a major host city for national cultural and entertainment events.
