London pizzeria Napoli on the Road has been named the best pizzeria in the world at the 50 Top Pizza awards in Naples, taking the top global trophy away from Italian establishments.
The establishment was created by master pizza chef Michele Pascarella, who launched the business a decade ago selling pizzas from a three-wheeled motor van at local farmers' markets before building a network of cozy venues across top districts of the British capital.
According to official results published by news publication Libertatea, the global ranking ceremony took place in Naples, the southern Italian city widely celebrated as the birthplace of Neapolitan pizza. Pascarella previously earned the title of world's best pizzaiolo in 2023, while his London venue led the European regional rankings for three consecutive years before climbing to the top of the global list.
Global Pizzeria Rankings
Second place in the worldwide ranking went to last year's champion, Una Pizza Napoletana in New York. Chef Anthony Mangieri personally rolls every dough ball and bakes each crust in an oven at the venue, which operates only three days a week with a tiny menu and available seats that sell out within minutes.
Although Italian pizzerias missed out on the top trophy, Italy dominated the overall list with 31 of the 100 recognized pizzerias from 36 countries located in the country. The United States placed second with 22 venues, while New York led all global cities with seven pizzerias in the ranking, followed by Naples with six and São Paulo with five.
The international top 10 featured Milan pizzeria Confine, I Masanielli in Caserta, and Seu Pizza Illuminati in Rome, alongside California venues Pizzeria Sei and Tony's Pizza Napoletana, plus featured establishments from Brazil, Japan, and Spain. 50 Top Pizza is an influential annual guide evaluating pizzerias worldwide through an inspection process.
Specialist Category and Restaurant Awards
Individual category honors were also handed out during the ceremony in Naples. Daniel Semrani of Gigi's restaurant in Sydney, Australia, was named pizzaiolo of the year, while the pizza of the year award went to Pomodori at QT Pizza Bar in São Paulo, Brazil.
London secured a second major award at the event, with 50 Kalò recognized as the world's best venue for fried pizza, a traditional style where dough is deep-fried before serving.
In a separate global ranking released by travel review platform Tripadvisor, Argentine steakhouse Fogón Asado in Buenos Aires claimed first place as the world's best restaurant. The establishment features traditional South American asado steaks cooked over an open fire directly in front of guests, with visitors warned that seating is limited and recommended to book tables in advance.
Second place in the Tripadvisor world ranking went to KOMA Singapore, while The Rhythms Restaurant in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi took third place.
