On Monday, April 25, the premiere of a new author’s show by Laysan Utyasheva “Carmen PS” will take place in Moscow “Crocus City Hall”. It’s worth a visit just because it’s so beautiful – both in terms of the production itself and the costumes. Let’s talk about the latter in more detail!
Young brand RA&LLY was busy taking pictures for the show. Collaboration began when Laysan Utyasheva met with a new collection, part of which is a maxi skirt. Seeing her, the star said that this is the main detail in the image of the heroine. It was the skirt that became the starting point in the creation of the entire line of costumes for artists. In the first phase, several meetings were held with the Carmen PS team, where they discussed the emotion and atmosphere that the audience should feel, after which the designers studied the archives, ancient cinema and the cultural codes of modern Spain.

At the heart of RA&LLY’s work, as with the show itself, is reinvention. Experts tried to create a unique visual range, different from similar shows, but still “readable” by the audience. For example, there are almost no red and black tones in the project. They deliberately abandoned it, replacing it with beige and graphite shades. The designers came up with this idea by examining old photos with a sepia effect.
A total of 25 chiffon, translucent silk and printed velvet suits from European manufacturers were prepared for Carmen PS. Meticulous calculation showed that about 1.5 kilometers of different fabrics and materials were used, averaging between 100 and 120 hours for each image! But there were exceptions: the dress that Laysan wore for the “Drama” scene was created for more than 180 hours. While sewing, all the wishes of the artists during the training process were taken into consideration. The most comfortable costume was created for each dancer.
