“No one told her,” a woman blushed after learning she had to unscrew the shipping bolts before using a new washing machine.
Aree from Auckland told TikTok in the video that she thought her brand new washing machine broke down because it would “shake the whole house” during a cycle.
Later, the saleswoman, while reading the manual neglected by her husband, discovered that she had to remove the bolts that prevented damage to the machine during shipping.

Aree in Auckland posted a viral video on TikTok saying she thought her new washing machine broke down because “no one told her”, she had to remove the shipping bolts before using it.
“No one told me that if you buy a brand new washing machine, you have to remove the bolts before using it to loosen the barbed thing or the whole house will literally shake,” Kiwi said in the TikToker clip.
The “spiky thing” he’s talking about is its drum, which is held in place by shipping bolts so that the car doesn’t move and break during delivery.
Bolts located on the back of the machine must be removed before use as this can cause serious damage and even void the warranty.
Most appliance brands strongly recommend that you hold the bolts and reattach them to the machine if you move.

Aree said the washer “rocked the house” because it didn’t remove the bolts that were in place to protect the unit from damage during shipping.
Remove shipping bolts from a new washing machine?
one. Find the key that came with the washing machine. This key is usually included in the same package as the user guide.
2nd. Place the rounded side of the wrench on top of the bolt. Bolt flats will line up with flat gaps in wrench.
3. Turn the brackets counterclockwise with the wrench to loosen all the bolts. The bolts are usually located at each of the four corners around the drum unit at the rear of the machine.
4. Grasp the bolt head and pull it out through the widest part of the hole. Repeat this procedure to remove all bolts. There will be four or five shipping bolts in total.

5. Fill the holes left by the bolts with the caps provided. There is a plug for each hole and it comes in the same package the wrench came in. Put the cover in place and press lightly with your thumb to insert it.

Aree’s video received over 501,600 views and hundreds of comments from people who made the same mistake.
“Before we knew it, we left them for three months,” one viewer said.
“I’m so glad I’m not the only one who did this. The instructions were pasted on top of mine and I still haven’t read it,” he said.
Responding to dozens of viewers who asked why she didn’t read the manual while plugging in the new machine, Aree said, “I actually read the book. My husband did not go directly to the classroom.
He also said he wasn’t aware of it and had never had a problem like this before because in the past he always bought used washing machines with the bolts removed.
