Klara Andersson joins the ABT CUPRA XE team

The ABT CUPRA XE team aims to end the season on a high. For this reason, Nasser Al-Attiyah will share the wheel with driver Klara Andersson, as they already did in the Chilean test after the unfortunate incident that forced Jutta Kleinschmidt to abandon the race. The Energy X Prix will take place in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on the weekend of November 26-27, where the The 100% electric Cupra Tavascan XE will be on the road for the last time in 2022.

In their first appearance together, at Chile’s final Copper X Prix, Al-Attiyah and Andersson finished on the podium, achieving the best result yet for the ABT CUPRA XE team in Extreme E’s second season.

It was a great achievement considering that the Swedish driver had just joined the team and had to familiarize himself not only with the Tavascan XE, but also with the tricky layout of the Atacama desert, full of bumps and loose gravel. After qualifying for the final in that event, Al-Attiyah and Andersson, who got along perfectly from the start, managed to finish third. This is how the ABT CUPRA XE team achieved its first podium of the 2022 season.

Following this success, the two drivers will reunite in Uruguay to face the last test of the year, aiming to achieve another excellent result for the team.

Klara Andersson stated that she was “delighted that ABT and Cupra have put their trust in me to participate in the final. It’s a great challenge and I feel very excited. I also think we are better prepared now than in Chile and we have “I will do everything right for the final test. Once we get to Uruguay I can tour the track on foot and do two free practice sessions to make contact for qualifying. This means it’s a normal race weekend. In Chile we have seen that we have a good rhythm; now, with the drive of the whole team, we hope to finish the season well”.

The Extreme E is a competition with several pillars on which its idea of change is based, starting with the electric drive of its cars. All teams use the same car, the Odyssey 21. Its performance is outrageous, with a maximum torque of 920 Nm and an output of 630 hp with a weight of 1.6 tonnes. The teams are only allowed to lightly touch the engine, inverter and some exterior details such as the side cover, skirts, lights and bumper designs.

The locations are another focus of Extreme E, as they will visit inhospitable and unsuspected places for a test of this caliber. The areas they will participate in have been damaged by the presence of humans or the action of climate change, so it will serve as a speaker for us to see the devastation and urgency we are facing.
