Survivor of Manchester Arena bombing speaks about injuries and grief over loss of partner

A victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing says the emotional pain of losing a partner in the attack outweighs the pain of life-changing wounds.

Paul Price spoke at Good Morning Britain (GMB) today ahead of the screening of the second part of a new documentary celebrating the fifth anniversary of the attack that killed 22 people by suicide bomber Salman Abedi.

said: ‘[It helps] especially to talk about Elaine. At first I had a hard time talking about Elaine because the pain, the loss, the pain was so great. It was terrifying.

“But now that I can, I like to talk about it and highlight what happened to me… I’m happy and I can talk about it now.”

Paul, who was hospitalized for eight months after the attack, says he “lost” the number of surgeries he had. He’s had 20 surgeries in the last five years while he was alone in a coma.

He lost the ability to hear in one ear and was almost unable to use one of his legs.

But he said the physical injuries were “incomparable to the loss of Elaine.”

He said of Elaine: “She was my everything, she was the love of my life, I was the love of her life.

It was one of the people you met and you feel like you’ve known them forever. He was someone you would want to open up to.

“He was someone everyone went to with their problems… what can I say? He was everything to me, he was my world, and it’s so hard to live without him every day now, but I know he wants me to move on and live the best life I can and be happy… and that’s what I’m trying to do. .’

Of her daughter Gabrielle, now 18, she said: “He was very brave, just like my son.

“You can’t look inside their heads, but from my point of view, she does everything an 18-year-old girl should do. You can’t see inside their heads, but I hope he’s okay.”

Paul added that he can now talk to his daughter about the tragedy.

“It’s still a sensitive topic…” he said, “but we can talk about it, not so much about what happened, but we can include Elaine in the conversation.”
