The “grumpy” neighbor of a seemingly busy vacation home has caused a stir online after photos of his efforts to keep visitors away went viral.
Adam set up checkpoints on his street and warned Airbnb guests (and guests) to return, explaining that their cars are not wanted in the area.
The signs looked like they were written on paper napkins and hung on large A-frames in the middle of a narrow suburban street.

‘NO Airbnb traffic! Turn back!’ read a sign.
“You are not welcome. ONE NEW!! Airbnb. Not close to us”, read the other.
More than 1,500 people responded to the post with homemade signs, and many laughed at the blockade.
“If Airbnb guests encounter this sign, they have already paid for the accommodation. The damage has been done. I would laugh if I saw him as a guest, I would walk around them,” one man said.
Reactions were divided, with many advocating the bill that vacation homes and the constant influx of strangers could “destroy” a neighborhood’s ambiance.
“People buy or rent affordable housing and use it for profit, even introducing revelers to otherwise quiet neighborhoods,” one woman said.
“You’re also increasing traffic, which is bad for commuters and kids, which can turn into bumps for people who don’t realize kids are playing there and don’t know speed limits,” he added, earning 300 Likes.
Others argued that renting a vacation would attract more or less visitors as if the home was rented full time.
“I can’t see what the traffic would be like anymore: if someone lived there, they’d come and go multiple times a day, and they’d probably have guests, too,” reasoned one person.
And others have challenged the “people only rent them for vacations” argument.
“I entrust them with my daughters because we prefer to cook alone and we don’t like being at party venues – I’ve never seen a reaction like this,” she said.
“I like being there because they’re usually in authentic neighborhoods that are cheaper and cleaner than hotels,” says another.
Owners of an Airbnb also said they criticized the neighbor for their “ugly” signals.
“We run a very successful Airbnb. No mass parties or major disruptions in our neighborhood. “We took a thorn with us and turned it into a big house that people love to be in.”
Others said they would be more offended by the “grumpy” neighbor than by Airbnbs.
“Getting out of your car for every move would be much more annoying than parties and traffic noise,” they said.
Many argued that the signals would be “ineffective” and a waste of time.
