Winner of the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, Kira Kovalenko’s uncompromising drama Lifting His Fists, Vasilisa Kuzmina’s slender Nika, which has become one of the best films of the summer, Maria Agranovich’s Heifers based on Sergei Minaev’s best-selling film – The face of Russian cinema is becoming more and more female, and girls do not just occupy the director’s chairs. And if in the early 2000s the professions of an operator, sound director or editor (in most cases, even a screenwriter) were considered exclusively male, now men will have to act.
