‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ returns to number 1 at the US box office with its revival

It was a quiet weekend for the US box office. In the absence of major releases and with the summer giving the final blow, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” managed, with little, to return to number 1, nine months after its first original in December 2021. It is been thanks to theatrical re-release of its extended version, which has 11 minutes of additional scenes and finally included Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in his promotional material.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ returns to number 1 at the US box office with its revival

The third solo episode of the arachnid superhero played by Tom Holland raised $ 6 million in his raise, a very decent amount, but enough to crown him the winner of the Labor Day weekend (holiday celebrated in the United States on the first Monday of September). The film directed by Jon Watts is back on 3,935 screens and is expected to close the bridge with 7.6 million in total. Its total is currently $ 812.3 million in North America alone, cementing its position as the third highest-grossing film in history nationwide. However, it will be impossible for him to catch up with ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which is in second place with 858.3 million.

Even so, there’s no doubt the move went very well for Sony Pictures, which resorted to its most successful character on a weekend where virtually no one released anything. Labor Day weekend usually has few entrances, but this was particularly unfortunate. To put that into perspective, last year another Marvel movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, set the all-time record for the weekend leading up to September 1 with $ 94 million at its opening. This year, throughout the weekend, the box office is close to 50 million in total.

Lack of competition allowed ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ remains very close to the top spot with another 5.5 million and 7 million expected by the end of the bridge. The sequel starring Tom Cruise is still going strong at the box office four months after its premiere and despite being already available digitally, it’s a phenomenon. Rounding out the top 5 are other previous versions that hold their own, “Bullet Train”, DC League of Superpets and “The Invitation”, while the only new extended version of the week, “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul ‘, reached number 14 with 1.44 million collections. The film, starring Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown, premiered simultaneously on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service.

‘Spider-Man’ also returns to Spain

The revival of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is a worldwide event and the film returns to theaters in Spain as well, but we will have to wait a little longer because the revival will take place three weeks later than in the United States, the September 23. The film with Tom Holland, Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch grossed $ 1,911 million, which ranks it as the sixth highest-grossing film in world historybehind “Avengers: Infinity War” ($ 2.048 million).
