Skin Guru Gry Tomte Shares His Best Skincare Secrets for Acne and How to “Age Reverse”

Described as “acne whispers,” a gorgeous skin expert explained how she changed her skin at age 50 and aged “backwards”.

After moving to Melbourne from his hometown of Norway, Gry Tomte told FEMAIL that he developed acne “almost overnight”, leaving him “self-conscious, unattractive and dirty”.

“I have suffered from both inflammatory acne and melasma (my acne pill) for over seven years,” Ms. Tomte said.

Over the years, she has tried a variety of remedies, from powerful facial scrubs to home kits, that can fight acne but cause them to age faster.

‘I didn’t have acne on my skin but had aged FOR YEARS! It was something that felt thin, dry, sensitive and like fine lines and wrinkles that started at night,” she said.

“As a skin therapist, I’ve made it my mission to better understand what’s happening to my skin and find out how much damage excessive exfoliation can do.”

Ms. Tomte was able to improve her skin by reviewing her skin care regimen and understanding “inflammation”, which is aging caused by the underlying inflammation.

“By removing the peels, taking care of SPF and internal nourishment, and using only paramedic skin care (I love and use DMK and have been doing this for seven years) I have removed the damage,” she said.

“In terms of treatment, I have seen skin needling, enzyme therapy, BBL Forever Young and regular LED Healite therapies.”

Now in her fifties, she also sees a clinical nurse for “a small amount of filler” to her chin to “replace some of the post-menopausal volume loss” along with wrinkle injections from age 40.

“My skin looks 50 years younger today than it did 15 years ago!” said.

What is Gry’s daily skincare routine?

Morning:

Beta Gluten Serum and Vitamin C with Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Power

Fractionated vegetable pigment oil to repair and lighten the barrier

Vitamin C is a moisturizing and tinted SPF

Evening:

Vitamin A lotion

All these products come from DMK, except for my tinted SPF developed by Mesoesthetic.

I regularly do DMK enzyme treatments to keep my skin cells healthy and refreshed on a cellular level and love the combination of skin needling and BB HERO to visit my team at the clinic in Melbourne

I rarely use chemical peels, only once every two months.

Ms. Tomte no longer experiences the painful rash she once had and remembers how her skin affected her self-confidence.

“I remember waking up in the middle of the night with the pain of new pimples forming. “I felt like everybody was judging me,” she said.

“The constant new daily rashes, sore skin, and of course a complete loss of self-confidence have left me pretty far from the outgoing and confident person I am.”

Ms. Tomte opened the HÜD clinic in Melbourne in 2014 to help her clients provide long-term skin care and advice.

Gry’s top five tips for healthy skin:

Always get a good source of omega fatty acids every day Omega 3 and 7 are particularly useful for regulating both inflammation and barrier function. They are a necessity because we cannot make them in the body and they are essential for all healthy cells.

It reduces stress – Stress steals growth hormones that will accelerate aging

Wear SPF every day – Even if you are alone in front of your computer and/or phone screen! They emit blue light radiation, which is responsible for excessive damage to pigments.

eat enough protein Protein is the building block of your body. And collagen and elastin depend on it.

cut out sugar – Sugar leads to glycation – a passage in the skin through hardened fibers (like little “pillows”). It is largely incurable, even with fillers and Botox.

She swears by using SPF and taking Omega Fatty Acids every day and advises against some salon treatments.

‘I get chills when I see microdermabrasion or dermaplaning! There is absolutely no point in forcing the epidermal cells this early. We see a lot of problems arising from these treatments every week in my clinic,’ says Ms. Tomte.

He also hopes that others will understand that a prescription of vitamin A in the form of retinoic acid is “absolutely not necessary.”

“Retinoic acid is easily absorbed by the skin, but retinol has been shown to be more effective and much less irritating,” he said.

Other Vitamin A derivatives such as retinol and retinyl hydroxypinacolone are highly effective in normalizing skin cells, protecting DNA, improving skin texture, pigmentation, acne, fine lines and dryness.

“It may be tempting to buy a prescription retinoic acid cream, but this is like gun darts.”

How to keep your skin young for decades:

20: relax with shells. Your skin works very well on its own, so focus on prevention. That means wearing your SPF! Treatments include light exfoliation, LEDs, enzyme therapy and skin needling to keep the skin healthy.

30s: Things start to slow down a bit. Cell cycle lengthens, so use a vitamin A serum or lotion to help regulate it. In terms of treatment, now is the time to introduce BBL HERO, Laser Genesis or Needling with A Vitamin Infusion to help skin stay younger for longer.

1940: If you haven’t already, now might be the time to get that regular Botox appointment. Static lines become more visible and wrinkle injections are a great way to smooth them out. It’s time to start upgrading needling for Forever Young’s RF needling and BBL treatments, as well as corrective pigment and vascular laser.

1950s: Growth hormones and sex hormones are dropping, and it’s time to make sure you’re eating healthy, taking EFA, and paying attention to your hormone levels. You will find that your skin is more “relaxed”, your chin will become more saggy and sun damage will become more obvious. As for treatment, now is the time to do a larger exfoliation several times a year and of course continue with RF needling, skin tightening and BBL Forever Young treatments.

60s: Time to get rid of the big guns. If you’re a little late in skincare, maybe it’s time to look for a fractional laser or ablative laser to fix sun damage. However, we advise against doing this unless absolutely necessary. Otherwise, the methods we’ve loved for 40 years will best preserve your skin’s texture, tone, and cellular health.
