Born as Thomas Sean Connery into a working-class family in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge district, he dropped out of school at 14 and got a job as a milkman.
Various other jobs followed, including as a factory worker and truck driver, then worked with the Royal Navy before earning a medical discharge.
He became interested in bodybuilding and visited London in 1953 to participate in the Mr. Universe competition that launched his acting career.
The future James Bond star got the opportunity to audition for the South Pacific West End production and was featured in the choir. Other theatrical roles followed, and he also made his breakthrough in television and film, eventually earning a leading role in the 1959 Disney movie Darby O’Gill and Little People.

When Sir Sean died, the Moroccan-French painter Micheline, Connery’s second wife, said it was his “life”.
But he was chosen as 007, which brought him international fame and prominence.
His private life, with an estimated £266m at the time of his death, has often been as eventful as his on-screen life and has rarely been free from controversy. His first wife, Australian actress Diane Cilento, said in her autobiography that she hated her success and “couldn’t deal with” her fame. She accused him of physically and mentally abusing her, and she described an incident in 1964 where she allegedly knocked herself down twice in a Spanish hotel room.
Conne vehemently denied the allegations, labeling his ex-wife a “crazy woman” who never divorced. But she later sparked more controversy when she told Playboy magazine, “I don’t think there’s anything particularly wrong with hitting a woman, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it the way you would hit a man.”
His marriage to Micheline outlived his stray gaze, including a seven-month affair with British pop star Lynsey De Paul.
