Cancer activist Lauren Mahon paid tribute to Dame Deborah James at Good Morning Britain, after being honored for her work on You, Me and the Big C at the British Podcast Awards.
Lauren Mahon, 37, spoke with Charlotte Hawkins and Ed Balls on Good Morning Britain on Monday to explain the significance of the podcast, which began in 2018 with fellow cancer patients Deborah and Rachael Bland.
Rachael died at age 40 in September of the same year, two years after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, while Dame Deborah, 40, died late last month after receiving end-of-life care for breast cancer.

The only surviving original host said, “It’s a very special case that his two co-hosts weren’t there because they died from the podcast thread.”
“But that’s why it’s so important that we do what we do. It’s the truth of cancer and Deb, Rach and I were talking about the good and the bad and the ugly, and that’s one of the bad and ugly parts of it.”
He continued: “It’s heartbreaking to navigate this rare thing that I don’t think I can turn to many others for advice.”
“But the overwhelming sense of pride in what we’ve done and the impact the podcast has made, I think we were so overwhelmed that we didn’t expect it when we walked into that studio.”

On their popular podcast, the trio candidly discussed life with cancer, treatment, and other cancer-related topics.
The mother of two, Dame Deborah, became known as Bowelbabe through her social media approach and raised £7m for charity before she died.
He died at home at the age of 40 after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016.
Charlotte talked about the podcast’s impact on people and how Deborah was able to remove some of the “colon cancer blemishes.”
Lauren concurred, “He was a really passionate person, mostly about raising awareness and saving lives who did a lot, but maybe millions.
“But it was also to prove that I have cancer, but I’m sexy and alive and I’m still alive.”

Lauren received the award at the British Podcast Awards held in London’s Kennington Park on Saturday.
He went on to say that Deborah had lived such a full life in just 40 years and “had such an impact on this planet.”
He said: “We couldn’t be more proud of a legacy to leave and our girlfriend.”
Host Ed continued to ask how Lauren was on her cancer journey and replied, “I’m fine.”
He continued: ‘I will have my annual MRI next month and this will be my fifth MRI. When diagnosed, we were told that the fifth scan was the remission scan.
The impact of the honest and inspiring podcast and the work of the presenters and behind-the-scenes team were recognized at the British Podcast Awards on Saturday in Kennington Park, London.
In her acceptance speech, Lauren said, “When Rachael died, Deb and I were kidding, I couldn’t broadcast a podcast because I couldn’t name it Me, Me and the Big C.

Lauren said Deborah is “really passionate” about raising awareness and saving lives.
“Podcast is our happy place. It’s a little surreal to be here without my two daughters. We knew it was a risk, some of us might die if we started, but we wanted to stay on the defensive.
“There’s still a lot of work to be done. I don’t know what it looks like, but podcasting has always been a service.
“The last time we won these awards, we dedicated the award to Rachael. I’m proud to say this is for Dame Deborah F*****g James!
The ceremony was moderated by comedians Elis James and John Robins, with awards from the podcast world including Pandora Sykes, Jamie Laing & Sophie Haboo, Sabrina Elba and Jon Sopel.
