Did they give you a bunch of flowers and? you regret that they wither before their time† If you want to keep your flowers fresh for longer, like the first day, we know how we can help you. We asked Interflora’s expert florists, experts in the business since 1951, to explain to us how to extend the life of our bouquets and flower arrangements.
1. The first essential point for bouquets to last longer is to focus on: the stems of the flowers† For this it is enough to make a cut of one or two centimeters and preferably with a knife instead of scissors. When making the cut, try to be diagonal† In this way you help your flowers to absorb more waterbecause the part of the stem that comes in contact with the food will be larger. Then it is useful to check that there are no more leaves of the bouquet in the water† This ensures that there are no unpleasant odors or that bacteria multiply.
2. The choice of vase or container is essential to keep the flowers looking perfect for longer. In this sense, glass vases help get more light on your flowers† If you can, choose one made of glass or translucent material.
3. Put your bouquet of flowers in clean and warm water, without reaching the bundle to ensure only the stems remain submergedand never leaves or petals.
4. Find the ideal place to put your bouquet of flowers. A place that is visible to your eyes but that meets all the conditions in terms of temperature and light. It is important that the chosen location have lots of natural light, preventing it from reaching you directly. Also make sure that your bouquet of flowers is away from sources of cold, such as air conditioning, or heat, such as radiators or fireplaces. Avoid drafts, as sudden temperature changes will not benefit your flowers.
5. When choosing your favorite corner to contemplate your bouquet of flowers, we must also consider the environment, whether dry or rather humid. When it is dry, you can occasionally evaporate them with a trickle of water† This will prolong the freshness.
6. Try place your flowers away from the fruits† The gas these foods give off when they ripen damages the freshness of the bouquet of flowers.
7. Change the water in your flowers every day and clean the vase thoroughly† This is also a good time to clean the stems a bit and, if you see it necessary, cut them off and remove any leaves that have been submerged in the water.
8. Our last tip to keep your bouquet of fresh flowers longer is use the preservative sachet which Interflora uses in all bouquets. In case your bouquet is not included: you can make the nutrients that prolong life yourself from your branch It will be enough to throw it water, the juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of sugar†
Where do you buy a quality bouquet? One of the references is for sure Colvin. His big novelty? “When a flower is beautiful, it is said. So these sunflowers need nothing else to create a bouquet full of positive energy. Our sunflowers are of local origin, grown in fields of Murcia, so you can enjoy flowers extra fresh A trick to make sunflowers look sturdier: cut the stems so that the flower is at the height of the mouth of the vase and keep it upright Remember that sunflowers arrive closed, put them in a vase with fresh water, in a well-lit place with no direct sun and you’ll see them open up little by little,” Colvin says of his new collection of locally sourced sunflowers grown in the flower growers’ fields on the Mediterranean coast.
