There is less than a week left before the month of July begins. Besides the heat, swimming in the pool and summer outings, this month will bring a series of changes to the ITV that it’s important we know†
The main novelty we will experience with the new version of the ITV Station Inspection Procedures Guide is the: lifting the restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic we suffered from Covid-19, during the last two years. We must not forget, because the virus has been with us for so long since its appearance in our lives in 2020, that we have forgotten a thing or two about that old normality in which we lived.
In the case of ITVs, a series of processes were eliminated for safety reasons requiring technicians to carry out a series of checks from within the passenger compartment. The procedures we refer to are the verification of the correct condition of the frame stamping and verification of the electronic control unit of the vehicle.
And what does this mean?
For those who don’t know, a car’s VIN is a combination of 17 digits used to identify vehicles sold in Europe and to obtain information about them.
on ITV will be its existence, its status, to be readable, that it has not been tampered with or is incomplete and that it coincides with the one stated in the vehicle’s documentation.
The chassis number can be found in different places depending on the model. In some cars it can be easily found as it is located on the dashboard and can be seen through the windshield. However, it can also appear on the nameplate or be stamped directly on the chassis.
To the reading of the control unit is carried out by means of an OBD reader, a system that allows ITV technicians to remotely connect a computer to the vehicle’s electronic control unit. This is done for the purpose of: confirm that there are no errors or unauthorized changes†
If you have to pass the ITV to your car in the next month don’t be surprised if they tell you that they are going to be doing one of these practices because from now on it will be again.
