Primark is expanding its services with the much requested click and collect. However, it is still in the testing phase and currently only a few stores offer it.
After many years of consumers requesting online shopping from Primark, the chain is finally testing the next best thing.
Click and collect is extremely convenient for shoppers, especially when they visit the store during peak hours and find that the item they want is not in stock.
Now the chain is testing to see how the service could work and how customers react in 25 stores and 2,000 items.
However, this is not an online purchase and, despite steps in the right direction, it still seems unlikely that the channel will switch to a digital service in the future.
Which Primark stores offer click and collect?
So far Primark hasn’t announced which specific stores will be taking part in the process, only stating that 25 of them will be in the North West of England.
This means that those who live near a smaller Primark store will have access to a larger selection of items.
Primark’s parent company, Associated British Foods (ABF), said: “Our midsize stores can only supply a limited range and for these customers the number of options available to them will more than double, increasing further. Stores.
“This trial will allow us to offer fashion, licensing and lifestyle products to more customers more often.”
Primark also confirmed that the specific stores involved in the process will be revealed in the coming months.
For now, the only confirmed window of time in which the trial will take place is the end of 2022.
What is available in the trial version of Primark Click and Collect?
Most of the items available in the click-and-gather trial will be children’s items, with ABF confirming that “everything from clothing and accessories to decorative children’s products and toys” will be involved.
The trial version will be identical to any other click-and-collect service for customers who have access to it.
ABF explains: “They will then be able to collect their purchases at a newly created dedicated customer collection point in the heart of the store.”
Will Primark ever offer online shopping?
For customers who expect to see this as the first step to a full online purchase, sadly this is not the case.
Speaking to the BBC, ABF chief George Weston said: “What you will never see is the entire Primark range available for click-and-collect, or one of them available for home delivery.”
The main reason for this is because of the expense involved.
This would require a huge shift in operations, hiring hundreds of new employees, and building the necessary infrastructure.
Click and Collect is simply a tool for customers to check the availability of items and secure their selections before entering the store.
