Coffee aficionados can rejoice when renowned Australian scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki explains why giving up the beloved beverage is a bad idea.
The famous scientist said in a video posted on TikTok that you shouldn’t give up coffee if you’re interested in the “health kick” because coffee has many benefits and can even improve your life expectancy.
“Observational studies show that coffee improves your life expectancy and outcomes if you have type II diabetes and heart disease,” the 73-year-old said in the now-viral clip.

Renowned Australian scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki said giving up coffee may not be the best idea if you’re getting a “health kick” as it has many health benefits.
“It will also help you if you have prostate cancer and/or cancer of the mouth and skin, so call it ‘maybe’ the most popular legal drug in the world.”
Clip Dr. Karl has received more than 296,800 views and hundreds of enthusiastic comments from coffee fans since it was posted a few hours ago.
‘* sip coffee * interesting…’, one joked, the other: ‘I quit coffee a month ago and felt bad. Now go back to the train”.

“Only for black coffee?” Or is coffee with milk still good?’ He asked a third question, to which Karl answered: “The beneficial effects are seen in all regular caffeinated coffees and to a lesser extent decaffeinated coffees.”
In the comments, Dr. Karl also says that small to moderate amounts of coffee are beneficial, and that “three or four cups a day is fine.”
Earlier, Dr. Karl was exploring the benefits of a few espressos a day.
Speaking to ABC, Dr. Karl said the chemicals found in coffee, kahweol and cafetrol, may help with medical conditions and have anti-inflammatory and cancer-protective properties.

He also cited a meta-study of 28 studies involving more than 1 million adults who found that people who drank three or more cups of coffee each day were less likely to develop type II diabetes than those who did.
“Also, if they drank six or more glasses a day, the risk was reduced again,” he wrote.
Another meta-study of 13 other studies involving more than 530,000 men concluded that for every two extra cups of coffee consumed per day, the risk of prostate cancer was reduced by 2.5%.
Those who drank more coffee had a 10% lower risk of prostate cancer than those who drank less.
Other meta-studies have shown that drinking three to five glasses a day has a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and oral cancer.
