Christopher Nolan, who directed Oppenheimer, Interstellar and the Batman trilogy, summarized the year in the field of cinema. The director examined the films released in 2024 and chose Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 among them. According to him, the director understands why audiences come to the cinema.
“It allows the world of Gladiator 2 to speak for itself, showing us once again who we are and inviting us to enjoy this magnificent spectacle. Why are there sharks in the Colosseum? Because we demand them, and Scott masterfully embodies that desire,” Christopher Nolan shared in an interview with Variety.
He added that Gladiator 2 managed to be both a remake and sequel to the original film, which he believes is Scott’s genius. Christopher noted that Ridley raised the bar in action production, touting his incredibly detailed, multi-camera staging and expertly crafted, clear and striking action scenes.
“Not only does it entertain, but it also keeps us aware of the themes of the film. Nolan pointed out that Scott’s contribution to the development of the cinema language is often underestimated, emphasizing, “Very few directors work so quietly and simultaneously.”
Let’s remember that Paul Mescal played the leading role in Gladiator 2. The actor previously talked about how he prepared for the shooting.
