The iconic 20th-century children’s book series The Moomins has sold up to 30 million copies worldwide. Now Finnish creator Tove Jansson’s extensive humorous notes on each of her heroes will be published for the first time 25 years after her death.

According to the Guardian, 89 previously unknown handwritten pages were discovered among hundreds of thousands of works in its vast archive, shedding light on “small, friendly and adventurous” creatures with “velvet-like” fur.
James Zambra, great-nephew and director of Moomin Characters, which manages the author’s estate, said: “It was in one of his notebooks. This is great! It is fascinating to discover Tove’s own thoughts on the character traits of the characters.”
