Dessert or drink? The classic Italian affogato (translated as drowned) consists of espresso and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Until the ice cream melts, it can easily be considered a dessert and eaten by the spoonful, but if you’re distracted for a few minutes, it quickly turns into a drink.

First, it was invented by the restaurant’s incredibly talented pastry chef Fatima Saleh, who always comes up with unexpected and extremely tempting desserts. Second, it’s a seasonal dish that will turn into a “pumpkin” by the end of summer. It combines the tartness of espresso, the sweetness of pistachio cream, the crunch of praline, and it also comes with a cup of affogato and a mini ice cream cone; we see no reason not to try it.

In a cafe with Russian cuisine and absolutely Russian “random” service, a completely Russian drink appeared – the author’s variation of affogato, but with jelly. Classic Italian affogato modestly hides in the menu of Aram Mnatsakanov’s Maritozzo and Probka projects on Tsvetnoy. It has been served in restaurants for many years and does not follow fashion. Ice creams in Probka Family restaurants are prepared in the kitchen according to their own recipe, and the coffee they use is not just plain coffee, but a special blend of beans from Ethiopia and Colombia. So, although the drink is definitely a classic, you will not find its analogue anywhere else. Perhaps in the same Probka in St. Petersburg.
