One couple explained that they were heartbroken after burying the remains of their beloved cat, but reappeared 24 hours later.
Danielle, 30, and Sam Smith, 31, from Birmingham, were shocked when a neighbor found a dead black and white cat believed to be their 11-month-old pet, Lucky, on Saturday 14 May.
Sam hurried to identify the body, which had nearly identical markings to Lucky, before taking the dead animal home, then went to Danielle, 30, who collapsed and fell to the ground “out of a movie”.
Landscaper Sam dug a hole and the salesman swayed and chatted with the moggy, who looked like he had been hit by a car, while the couple held a small ceremony where they placed a headstone that read “RIP Lucky.”

The couple held a small ceremony where they placed a headstone that read “RIP Lucky” (pictured) after the dead cat was mistaken for their pet.
The next day, while she was in tears at work, mother-of-three Danielle received a photo of her real cat walking through the front door and starting breakfast.
The couple was both relieved and horrified to realize that someone else had buried their cat.
Danielle said, “The situation is hilarious and it’s humiliating how upset we all are. I still can’t solve it. It was a traumatic weekend.
“In a group chat for school moms, a mom sent a message asking if she knew a fairly large black and white male.
‘My cat is so bad, he’s trying to get into people’s homes. So I replied with a message and “Ben, what are you doing?” I said. and I sent him a picture of Lucky but didn’t hear it, so I tried to call him a few times.

Danielle learned the next day that she had buried the wrong cat after she received a photo of Lucky (pictured) from a neighbor.
“I panicked as he kept quiet, so I thought something was up.
“I was about to take a shower and she called and said ‘I’m not sure it’s your cat in the photo you posted’ but it wasn’t a good photo as it was on her side.
“I asked if the cat was okay, and he said he was gone, so I asked if I could send my wife as she was alone on the road.
“He hit his push bike. I was shocked but couldn’t believe it, I thought, “There will be no luck”.

Danielle exchanged messages with a mom in a group chat for school moms asking about a black and white cat.
“I was in the shower and she went into the bathroom, looked me in the eyes and said ‘Happiness.’ I broke and fell
“I was in the shower, so I went outside and Sam said I didn’t need to see it, I just had to see it so I could turn it off. It was very dramatic. I couldn’t control it.
“They are part of the family. The cat was in an old-fashioned potato sack. My wife tried to stop me from looking.
“I roared, sniffed and drooled, I pushed him away and said ‘I gotta see this’ like I was in a movie.
“We opened the bag to see the cat’s neck, the body and markings were exactly the same. I was stroking him. I went to look at his face, which wasn’t very nice, but I wanted to make sure.

Danielle continued to pile on at work the day after she buried the cat, but burst into tears of happiness after receiving a picture of Lucky.
“My hands were bloody from stroking him, I spoke to him apologetically and said I couldn’t believe it was happening and I loved him.
“My partner was digging a hole in the background. It was also raining, so the whole situation was very dramatic.
“I sat with the cat for about 20 minutes. I cried on the phone with my mom and made a Facebook post. I was complaining about people speeding up when there were cats around.’
Danielle went to work the next day and had to explain to her manager that her beloved pet had died because she kept collapsing.

Danielle was able to find the owner of the cat she buried on Facebook and was asked to bury it in the garden.
She burst into tears of happiness when she received a photo of Lucky at 10:30 am, but realized that someone else had buried her cat.
Danielle said, “I went to bed but didn’t sleep. I didn’t put on makeup on the way to work because my eyes were swollen.
‘I continued to have a hard time at work, I told my managers and they were very supportive. I was about to go to work and suddenly my lower lip disappeared and tears began to flow.
“Then I got a text from mom that she didn’t think it was Lucky, and I told her it was, let me cry for her. She really apologized and said I knew my cat, she. It was so cute.
‘I’m still there crying. I got a Snapchat around 10:30 and there my Lucky was having his dinner and bathing in my bed.

Danielle said she was still excited but “so happy” when she relived the situation that Lucky (pictured) is back
“I burst into tears of happiness but at the same time, ‘What cat blood do I have on my hands?’ I thought. and whose cat I cried.
“When Sam dug the hole, he placed a stone on it that said ‘RIP Lucky’. It was a full tomb. It’s a very funny situation.
“Everyone said it was typical for me and Sam. If it’s going to happen to anyone, it’s us.’
Danielle managed to find the owner of the cat she had buried and asked her to leave her pet in the garden to rest, where it was buried.
Danielle posted a photo of the cat on Facebook, and I texted her that I thought her cat was buried in my garden. I explained what had happened and she was so kind.
“I know it sounds weird, but I asked him if he wanted us to dig him up to bury him or burn him. He said if all goes well, leave him alone, so we planted some seeds there.
“I’m relieved but still excited when I relive the situation. I’m so happy the cat is back because we’ve literally had her since she was born,” she said.
