There was an explosion in reality television programming in the 1990s. We don’t know about you, but we rushed to the screens so as not to miss the new episode. Now you can easily open YouTube and see what you missed, but there weren’t any shows like this before. We decided to be nostalgic and remember the youth programs we watched in the 2000s.
western shows
“wheelbarrow for pumping”
Exibit has selected the oldest and most worn cars and turned them into works of art. Of course, “How to drive?” questions from the series only now arise, but who cares in adolescence that a built-in aquarium with lights in a car is impractical?
“Next”
Five candidates vie for the heart of a girl (or guy) and try to impress in a short time. For every minute spent, participants earn money, so the goal is to stay at the desired object as long as possible and not hear “Next”.
“Already Possible”
Rich American kids celebrate their 16th birthday in such a big way that they just cause a feeling of envy. Well, a little contempt: the behavior of golden adolescents cannot be called an example. For example, they were very upset when they bought a black Mercedes instead of a white one. But parents always solved this problem: after the black one, the desired white one necessarily appeared from the bushes, and the mood of the birthday boy immediately became better.
“Let’s Discuss”
As the name suggests, participants had to complete tasks for money. Of course, the missions were unpleasant to say the least. For example, to finish off the gum that has already gotten into someone’s underwear.
“America’s Next Top Model”
Tyra Banks tried to turn ordinary girls into real models! In each episode, one of the participants left the show after the next shooting, and the rest were one step closer to signing a contract with a real modeling agency (to be honest, we did not see a single winner in the campaigns of the top brands). The famous Smize, meaning “to smile with your eyes”, was invented by Tyra. And the favorite episode of each season was the one where the girls changed their looks!
“Fear factor”
Participants were tested for strength in three tasks: from eating bugs to stunt tricks. The grand prize was $5,000, which people were willing to face their fears.
Russian
“Star Factory”
A musical reality show where almost two dozen young talents try to become singers. By the laws of the genre, someone leaves after every episode reporting gig. And during the week it was possible to follow the life and preparations of the participants. It was the first such musical program on Russian television, and then it caused a real sensation. It was also nice that not only the winners, but also the brightest participants, were “eliminated” to the top, despite the fact that they remained without an award. Timati is the best example of this.
“Last Hero”
The participants, including both stars and ordinary people, were taken to a deserted island and split into two tribes, trying to find out which could end in the absence of civilization. Of course, in each series the “outcasts” had missions, and the losing team had to remove one of their own missions. There were a total of six seasons in which Decl, Ksenia Sobchak and others took part. But our favorite is Nikolai Drozdov, who not only hunts various animals on the island, but also entertains the audience with obscene curses.
Boyard Castle
We are sure you remember this music in the entrance! An analogue of the French game was released on Russian screens in 1998, but we watched it for ten years. The team of participants had to go through mental and physical tests to finally retrieve the castle’s treasures (it looked so easy from this side of the screen!). Old Fura and the cleaners have become people’s favorites! And the most exciting moment is in the finale when the heroes quickly collect gold coins and push them into the most incredible places.
“The smartest”
The TV exam gave children and young people the chance to study for free at one of the UK’s most prestigious colleges. It was incredible to watch the attendees: they were able to answer a question from any field (history to biology) posed by the fussy Tina Kandelaki before we even had a chance to read the headline!
“Weak connection”
A foreign company is trying to jointly win a prize of 400 thousand rubles by answering questions. Each correct answer gives the team several thousand rubles, so a regular sum accumulates for a set of correct answers. If you answer incorrectly, the chain collapses and the coin burns. The scariest thing was to hear “You are the weakest link” at the end of the program.
“12 Angry Spectators”
A dozen presenters watched clips of the stars and gave their subjective assessments of what they saw. Of course, the comments were the funniest – it is not in vain that the audience was angry!
