Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden joins the royal family to celebrate King Carl Gustav’s 76th birthday

The Swedish royal family gathered on the balcony of the Royal Palace in Stockholm today to celebrate the king’s 76th birthday for the first time since 2019, after the epidemic suspended the annual tradition for two years.

Queen Silvia, 78, wife of King Carl XVI Gustav, accompanied her children and grandchildren to the famous balcony to watch the parade in the courtyard.

Among the royal family was his heir, the 44-year-old Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.

He looked smiling and gorgeous in a blue coat with his hair pulled back into a low, straight ponytail as he watched the celebration and greeted the crowd.

Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf, who is celebrating his 76th birthday today, was photographed during the traditional parade in the courtyard.

At the event, which was held for the first time since 2019 due to the Covid pandemic, flower bouquets were presented to the monarch by the public.

His six-year-old son, Prince Oscar, looked neat by pairing his suit’s blue with a royal blue tie and navy blue blazer. His 10-year-old daughter, Princess Estelle, was elegant in a light gray coat and tortoiseshell glasses.

Victoria’s husband, 48-year-old Prince Daniel, a former personal trainer, wore a navy blue suit and royal blue tie as he stared at the assembled crowd.

Queen Silvia completed the blue theme by choosing a lighter blue jacket and a cream scarf. She finished off her chic look with soft makeup, revealing her pink lip and gently rocking her curls.

Meanwhile, King Gustav donned his traditional uniform in the courtyard with his youngest son, Prince Charles Philip, 42, wearing military insignia to attend his father’s birthday parties.

During the festivities, you saw children queuing to wish the king happy birthday and give him flowers.

After a two-year hiatus due to Covid, long lines of philanthropists have been spotted, perhaps eager to embrace the returning tradition.

Prince Charles Philip’s wife, 37-year-old Princess Sophia, and one of their three children, four-year-old Prince Gabriel, watched from the balcony.

After seeing the Royal Marching Band, the monarch saw the audience meet and receive bouquets from the children to wish them a happy birthday.

The event marked the first time King Gustavus has attended the traditional celebration since 2019, after plans were scaled down in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

There was a small reception last year, but no parade in the courtyard. He spent his birthday in seclusion in 2020, the palace has released new photos to celebrate his 74th birthday.

King Gustav was seen in the palace courtyard as well as his family on the royal balcony during his birthday celebrations.

The young royal family seemed amused as they greeted the crowd gathered for the traditional event.

The second longest reigning monarch in Swedish history, the monarchy ascended the throne in 1973 when he succeeded his late father, Gustavo VI Adolfo.

After meeting him while hosting the 1972 Olympics, he married German-born Silvia Sommerlath, now 75, in 1976.

A law was passed in 1980 eliminating male preference in the line of succession.

This means that he is the apparent heir to Crown Princess Victoria, replacing her older brother Carl Philip.

She is expected to be Sweden’s first female ruler from the 18th century.
