The Sun apologizes for Jeremy Clarkson’s column that slammed Meghan Markle with a Game of Thrones reference

British newspaper The sun explained on Friday why a column by Jeremy Clarkson that slammed Meghan Markle was removed.

Clarkson’s “opinion article”, published last Friday, “sparked a strong backlash and led to a large number of complaints to IPSO, the independent press regulator,” the Rupert Murdoch-owned paper wrote in a post on his website today with the one titled “Clarification”.

In the column, Clarkson wrote that Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, “should be paraded naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowd chants ‘Shame!’ calls. and throw pieces of excrement at them” – a reference to a famous reconciliation scene with Queen Cersei (Lena Headey) in season 5 of game of thrones. As a result, Clarkson’s column became the most complained about IPSO article of all time.

In a tweet earlier this week, Jeremy said he made a “clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones that “resonated badly with a lot of people” and that he was “shocked that he caused so much pain.”

He also said that he would be more careful in the future.
