James Cameron: ‘Avatar: The Way of the Water’ special effects are better than Marvel’s

13 years later, Avatar’s long-awaited sequel hits theaters on December 16! But it seems that before the premiere, a new scandal breaks out and a big scandal…

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Cameron stated that when people compare the special effects in the Avatar: The Way of the Water sequel to his work in Marvel’s recent films like Avengers: Endgame, it “doesn’t even come close”.

“I want to say right up front that I’m not discrediting the Marvel Universe or DC. I love these movies. Let’s just go ahead and close the issue,” the director said at the beginning of the interview.

In the past, James had often criticized superhero movies and this time he couldn’t resist. He initially praised the overall quality of the special effects work done by various artists.

“Obviously the big comics movies are the driving force behind the industry, right? And the rising wave of technology is bringing everyone together. This gives you better performers, more tools, plugins and code. [для использования]Cameron explained.

“Our team at WETA Digital is now known as the best! TRUE? Industrial Light & Magic (a visual effects studio for movies including Marvel Cinematic Universe) does a great job, but when it comes to what we do with facial expressions. Thanos? Come on. Oh, come on. Have you watched Avatar: The Way of the Water? It’s not even close. And WETA has achieved that.”
