Backstreet Boys frontman Nick Carter was sued for raping a female fan in 2001.
Shannon “Shay” Ruth, 39, who suffers from autism and cerebral palsy, detailed her encounter with the singer after a concert in Washington DC when she was 17 and Nick was 21.
According to Rolling Stone, Nick invited her on their band’s bus. He later said that he gave her an alcoholic drink before forcing her into sexual acts. The victim stated that he was diagnosed with HPV after this incident.
The lawsuit says she “begged him to stop” and that Nick said it would be their “private secret”.
Shea also said at the press conference: “Despite being autistic and living with cerebral palsy, I believe nothing has affected me more than what Nick Carter did to me,” adding that at the time he had become “nasty and menacing.” You can see photos from the press conference here.
A source denied the allegations in a statement released by TMZ: “This claim is absolutely false, Nick is focused on his family and mourning his brother.”
“This allegation regarding an alleged incident that occurred more than 20 years ago is not only legally baseless, but also completely untrue,” the attorney for Backstreet Boys member Michael Holtz said in a statement obtained by Page Six.
“Unfortunately, for several years, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false accusations against Nick – and those charges have changed repeatedly and dramatically over time. This isn’t the first time the musician has been accused of sexual harassment. She also denied the rape allegations of singer Melissa Schuman in 2017.
