King Charles III reportedly reserved a special title for Princess Charlotte.
According to Daily Mail sources, the new monarch is preparing to name the middle daughter of Prince William and the third heir to the throne, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Edinburgh. The late Queen Elizabeth II, who was the Duchess of Edinburgh before she became queen in 1952. It is reportedly made in honor of Elizabeth.

“Controversy is ongoing, but the positive outcome for the king is that this title should go to Princess Charlotte,” said an insider. “Of course it would be a fitting way to honor the Queen, who holds the title of Duchess of Edinburgh, and a way for Her Majesty to honor the line of succession.”

A Daily Mail source added: “Charlotte’s position is historically significant because she is the first female member of the royal family to sit above her younger brother during the succession. So this is constitutionally significant because if Prince George, for example, has no children, it is quite possible that he will ascend to the throne.” Recall that when Princess Diana was pregnant with Prince William, the royal succession rules were changed to allow a daughter born to the royal couple to have the same rights as a son.
