New concept art from the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe The film has emerged, giving fans their first look at Jared Leto’s Skeletor’s sinister home, the infamous Snake Mountain.
During the recent Brand Licensing Europe event, executives from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Greg Colemann AND Ruth Henriquez previewed the highly anticipated revival of Masters of the Universe franchising.
Attendees were treated to concept art featuring Snake Mountain, and the design is dark, disturbing, and true to its many appearances in the animated series and comics.
While parts of the film are reportedly set on Earth, this first look confirms that fans will still experience a true-to-form Eternia, brought to life with massive world-building and visual detail.
Speaking about the project, Ruth Henriquez shared: “The property has never gone away; it has continued to reinvent itself. It feels like the perfect time. Fans are asking for more and we know there’s a trend fueled by nostalgia.
“Most importantly, we have been waiting for the perfect partner and creative team to bring ‘Masters of the Universe’ to life in a way that feels epic.”
Greg Coleman added: “To build a film of this scale and scope, it takes a lot of effort, and it’s not easy to pull off. Audiences are really demanding. The size of the set and the level of detail was out of this world.”
Coleman continued on about the crux of the story, saying, “Skeletor is one of the most delightful villains of all time, but there’s also the story of Adam, who’s a normal person and has to take power.
“It’s always within him and it’s revealed in a powerful way. We have this life-size cast and.” [director] Travis Knight who had a vision. Even if you’ve never seen ‘Masters of the Universe,’ it’s a fun and entertaining story.”
Executives also teased plenty of nods to longtime fans, while assuring that the film will still be accessible to newcomers:
“For longtime fans, there are Easter eggs in the movie, but taking a step back, the entry point for fans is broad. The entry point will be very accessible for everyone. This will be the movie that everyone will be talking about.”
They also likened the film’s cultural potential to one of the biggest hits of 2023, promising: “People will wear the merchandise, buy the toys and talk about it just like Barbie.”
Directed by Travis Knight (Hornet), the film features a cast led by Nicola Galitzine (The idea of you) like He-Man and Jared Leto (Morbius) as Skeleton. Join them are Alison Brie (Promising young woman) as Evil-Lyn, Camila Mendes (Riverdale) like Teela, and Idris Elba (Thor: Ragnarok) as a man-at-arms.
The ensemble also includes Sam C. Wilson (House of the Dragon) as Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah (The beekeeper) like Tri-Klops, Hafthor Björnsson (game of Thrones) in the role of the Goat Man, Morena Baccarin (Deadpool and Wolverine) in the role of the Sorceress, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings) like Fisto, and Jon Xue Zhang (Eternals) as Ram-Man.
Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.
