New York State is giving more protection to victims of sexual assault, and it’s Donald Trump who is shaking. According to AFP extensionthanks to a new law, which came into force on Thursday 24 November in the state of New York, E. Jean Carroll was able to re-present her rape complaint against the former American president.
Assault in a dressing room
E. Jean Carroll, 78, filed charges against the billionaire for the first time, in November 2019. She then has already accused him of rape and defamation. The alleged sexual assault that occurred in 1995 or 1996, the facts were prescribedthus preventing the former journalist from carrying out his complaint. As for the libel suit, it could not succeed due to the diplomatic immunity that protected the politician then president of the United States.
As a reminder, E. Jean Carroll accuses Donald Trump of raping her in a dressing room of a New York department store in the 1990s. Accusations that the former head of state called a “complete lie,” adding in a nauseating comment that the magazine’s former columnist SHE “she wasn’t his kind of woman.”
New York State Passes Adult Survivors Act
If there was a time when Donald Trump had his power and legal rules as an ally, that period is over. New York State’s new Adult Survivors Act gives alleged victims of sexual assault one year to sue, even if the facts are time-barred. Despite announcing that he will run for president, Donald Trump, 76, remains until further notice a citizen like any other, who no longer has the privilege of his status to escape justice.
