What if we rewarded the sexism of politicians? It’s the (ironic) bet of Everything will be fine*

This Friday, November 25, 2022, the Observatory on Gender-Based and Sexual Violence in Politics is organizing an awards ceremony to honor politicians accused of misogynistic violence in politics. And because the denunciation and the campaign can also be done with humor and irony, Mathilde Viot, co-organizer of the event (which will be broadcast online), tells us more.

They have been convicted of molesting their ex-girlfriend, are accused of drugging an elected official without his knowledge in the hope of having sex with her, or of beating his wife (but “only once, so how are you”).

They also stand up for their boyfriend because you see, they’re convinced he’s incapable of hurting a woman. They are also the champions of misogynistic jokes, but they only have the reputation of being a little clumsy and not very mean. They accuse these “dirty feminists” of wanting to harm their political career, they trivialize or minimize the words of those who dare to speak…

” Their “, are politicians and some of them will perhaps receive a prestigious honor. This is the entire objective of the evening Everything will be fine* to be held this Friday 25 November, the international day for the fight against violence against women, and which will reward politicians who have distinguished themselves this year in the field of gender-based and sexual violence.

Reporting violence in politics in a different way

At the origin of this awards ceremony we find the Observatory of sexist and sexual violence in politics, an organization created by Alice Coffin, Madeline da Silva, Hélène Goutany, Fiona Texeire and Mathilde Viot. The latter, feminist activist, instigator of the MeToo Politique and co-founder of the Collaborating Chair, answered our questions precisely about this evening that promises to be highly caustic and feminist :

“The Observatory has been in existence for a year, a year of denouncing men, of arriving in the media with a severe air, of entering the long-awaited category of venerable, not very funny feminists… we, we want to have fun too! »

To set the tone, this ceremony was baptized in reference to Gérald Darmanin’s little sentence in front of Apolline de Malherbe, pronounced on the morning of RMC dripping with condescension and contempt and above all inspired by a macho meme.

Darmanin will do

This will be an opportunity to reward all those who have distinguished themselves in the field of violence against women:

  • a price ” All hysterical ” to greet “the ordinary sexism of politicians”,
  • a price ” The little angel is gone too soon ” reward “the politicians whose talent has not been able to fully unfold due to neo-feminist cabals”,
  • a price ” Broken career ” for those “whose distinguished career was violently disrupted by false allegations of sexual assault”,
  • a price ” of the Godfather ” to honor “the great men who valiantly protected their companions, their ministers, their brothers”,
  • a price ” freedom to annoy ” to decorate “the theorists of men’s thought – the real ones -, the defenders of freedom of expression, of French gallantry”,
  • a price ” I accuse crown “men who have the panache to lay bare conspiracies to tarnish their honor or the honor of their brothers in arms”,
  • and finally a Prize best hope » assigned to those who “were able to foil the traps set by relentless feminists”.

The names of the nominees – and those of the winners – will be announced during the ceremony.

These prices are a way to distinguish each of their behaviors, explains Mathilde Viot, to see “the spectrum ranging from complicity and support given to the defendant, to a serious attack, but also to the use of justice or the media to ensure his defence” :

“We wanted to insist on creativity, on the different tools they master perfectly to get out of these situations. It also has a somewhat educational virtue of showing in a very tangible way what they are doing to fight against the progress of women’s rights. »

Using humor as an activist tool

Drawing on the modes of action of the La Barbe collective or even in the spirit of the OUT d’or ceremony, the creators of the evening It will all be fine* claim management of irony. Mathilde Viot is convinced that humor is a tool to use as a feminist, because it is too often monopolized by men: “When I worked at the Assembly, I noticed that there was always a sense of humor – which was useless – aimed at women to belittle them, to discredit them. I think it’s a very large field to recover, which allows us to be very creative. »

Hosted by Schaerbeek’s elected environmentalist Sihame Haddioui and deputy mayor of Paris Audrey Pulvarthe evening will also be punctuated by a panel of collaborators, journalists, artists, writers and committed activists:

it'll be fine

And in order not to miss a beat, the evening, which will be held at the Town Hall in the 12th arrondissement of Paris from 7pm on Friday 25 November, will also be broadcast online.
