The UK’s boom in film and television studios took another step forward with the opening of a 1.3m2 site in central Bedfordshire.
Home Of Production (HOP) Studios plans to lead the way later this year after public consultation and will begin accepting bookings from 2024, with owners Quartermaster and VERB planning other sites.
Bedfordshire Studios offers accommodation on stage, in workshops, warehouses and offices with additional space planned to support the craftsmen and a creative hub for services.
The owners have said they want to create a network in the UK and internationally that meets the needs of modern production and gives producers the security and flexibility to create unique content.
Quartermaster’s Katya Baker, who runs the site, highlighted the well-being of the film and television staff dealing with HOP, which has been a hot topic in the industry lately.
“The well-being of production teams must be taken into account in their work environment,” he added. “HOP Studios is here to revolutionize the installation industry and provide a modern working environment for modern film and television producers.”
The HOP will also have daycare centers and will work with local communities, educational bodies and apprenticeship programs.
The studio is one of at least four major sites launched in recent months to cater to the UK’s growing film and television industry, along with RD Studios, Troubadour Brent Cross Studios, and London-based Versa, although Versa has already opened. Second site in Manchester.
