Qatar 2022: the companions of the English team will remain on a luxury ship… but alone

Surely, for the next World Cup, Qatar will do nothing like the others. The organizational and ecological absurdities generated on the occasion of the world meeting which begins on November 20 are no longer counted. But here’s another one. The English newspaper The mirror unveiled, on 4 November, the special reception conditions in which the companions of the players of the English team will be hosted. The WAGs, as they are called in the UK, will be staying on a luxury vessel. Is this preferential treatment? No, it seems that the organizers of the World Cup have booked MSC World Europa for the tournament to make up for the lack of hotels and accommodation in the country.

Players are prohibited from entering the ocean liner

Away from the turmoil, WAGs will perhaps gain in return : a crystal staircase, full butler service, 13 onboard restaurants, 6 swimming pools, 14 hot tubs, 30 bars and cafes… to finally accommodate very few people. The ocean liner, estimated at a billion pounds, is excessive. Only problem, access will be forbidden to one’s spouses. It would appear that this measure was taken to preserve the Three Lions from Covid. The English players will then be hosted at the Souq Al Wakra hotel in Doha.
