Tonight Late Show with Stephen Colbert Educational culture wars are on his mind, and Florida (which the host calls “America’s Mullet”) is zero for all that.
In the South and Midwest, problems have arisen when it comes to critical race theory and any teaching that focuses on marginalized issues, forcing students to feel bad about historical mistakes in American history.
“How’s the history lesson in Florida going to be now?” says. It continues to set an example of what students should expect. Alright guys today we heard that in 1492 Columbus was swimming in the blue ocean blah blah new Batman now working on HBO Max. Come and get your diplomas!”
Unfortunately, the censorship of a particular part of history does not end there. Colbert cites some statistics that shed light on how uncontrollable this is, as he noted (from CNN) how the Florida Department of Education rejects 41 percent of new math textbooks. These books were rejected as references to critical race theory. It highlights the problem with this thinking and the type of education students expect.
“Well, this opens up the renewed division unity: the house splits within itself…hey, these are two houses. Cute!”
Although the Ministry of Education claimed that the book exclusion process was “transparent,” the host was confused.
“I guess they banned dictionaries too because that’s not what being transparent means,” he jokes.
