Monkeys chained, whipped and beaten to harvest coconuts for hours. These are the shocking images summarized in a video published on November 12, 2022 by PETA. The Asian division of the association for the defense of animals has revealed its investigation carried out in Thailand, proving the facts of exploitation and mistreatment carried out on farms. The Hello Fresh meal delivery company was also singled out by the association, because the coconut milk it uses comes from these same suppliers.
Thai trainings blocked for the third time
PETA’s investigation lasted 8 months and reviewed the practices of 57 Thai farms. In all of these areas, monkeys are mistreated. Some coconut harvesters told the association that monkeys sometimes break their bones when they fall from trees or when their captors pull their rope too hard.
Faced with these outrageous practices, PETA is asking Hello Fresh subscribers to unsubscribe and urges consumers more broadly not to buy canned coconut products made in Thailand. This is PETA’s third investigation in Thailand. Following the publication of the previous two investigations, the Thai government and companies manufacturing coconut products said monkeys were no longer used in the manufacture of exported products. But this new survey demonstrates little if any control over the treatment of primates on these farms.
