Disney/Marvels Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrived at a $10.1 million starts on Wednesdays in 17 international box office. That means continued offshore rollout through Friday and domestic debut of the sequel on Friday (domestic previews begin Thursday).
With likes, overall results are estimated to be 225% ahead of day one Black Adam45% lead by the dough27% below the original Black Panther (which had the advantage of opening during the Lunar New Year in Asia) and 31% lower Thor: Love and Thunder (open during the summer holidays).
Wednesday was directed by Ryan Cooller Wakanda forever debuted in France, Germany, Italy and Korea among majors.
It was #1 in all markets, led by France ($2.2 million) for the third highest opening day of 2022 and with a market share of 70%.
in the Korea, which was No. 3 overseas in the original film, was $1.4 million as of Wednesday ($2.25 million to date and not included in the international total above). The film dominated the game, but as we noted in our preview, it could be a turnaround – the country coming out of a period of mourning after a national tragedy.
Indonesia and Germany were even worth $900,000 each on Wednesday. The first landed the 4the highest opening day during the pandemic era and a whopping 99% market share.
Thailand rounded out the top 5 on Wednesday at $800,000 with a 97% share.
Much of Latin America bows today and previews are worth $4 million (not included in the $10.1 million above). Although these are only previews, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Wednesday was no. 1 across the region, including Brazil and Mexico.
The offshore rollout continues today and tomorrow, with domestic access on Friday.
