For Halloween, here are 5 movies rated from most to least scary

We choose Funeral rites mainly because it is available on Netflix but, of course, all Tim Burton movies are great and worth our Halloween night. There would be so many reasons for doing so thank this genius gothic cinema – it is a good idea that the jurors of the Festival des Lumières in Lyon had, by awarding his career with the 14th Prix Lumière this autumn.

Out of all these reasons, we would like to thank Tim for allowing me to the most fearful of taking advantage of your wonderfully macabre universes but always deeply fun and hot. Like doors that open to other worlds Mr. Jack’s Strange Christmasit could be Tim Burton the first step towards the love of horror movies ?

The village (M. Night Shyamalan, 2005)

In which a small isolated community lives the terrifying certainty that a race of mythical creatures inhabits the woods surrounding the country. This force of evil is so threatening that no one dares to venture beyond the last houses, much less enter the woods … Young Lucius Hunt, a stubborn boy, is nevertheless determined to go and see what lies beyond the borders of the villageand his audacity threatens to change everyone’s future forever …

Self The village occupies the second place in this selection, previous step switching to another level horrorit is precisely because it is a film deeply ambiguous, complex and rich. One thing is certain: will defy all your expectations. And for this, arm yourself with a little courage will be really worth it.

What can be said even without spoilers is that a film directed by Mr. Night Shyamalan (Sixth Sense, Signs, Split, Visit) with Joaquin Phoenix, Adrian Brody and Sigourney Weaver is a YES. Additionally, the film is available on Disney +.

Walrus (Tomas Alfredson, 2008)

Oskar is a fragile and marginalized teenager, totally abandoned to himself and martyred by the boys of his class. To escape his boredom, he takes refuge at the end of the snow-covered courtyard of his palace, and imagine scenes of revenge.

When Eli moves in with his father on his own landing, Oskar finally finds someone to befriend. Going out only at night, and in a T-shirt despite the freezing cold, the young woman never fails to intrigue him … and her arrival in this Stockholm suburb coincides with a series of bloody deaths and mysterious disappearances.

If you are looking for a movie full of jumpscare effective and easy, scenarios already seen everywhere, 3D monsters: you can go your own way !

Walrus is strangely realistic, macabre, fascinating and poetic. The horror is spread sparingly but when it reveals itself, we really want to look away. Unjustly overlooked horror masterpieceMorse is the movie you dream of to discover on a Halloween night. To be booked for a informed public.

Mr. Babadook (Jennifer Kent, 2014)

Since her husband’s sudden death, Amelia has struggled to bring back her 6-year-old son Samuel, who has become completely out of control and cannot love. when a storybook titled Mr. Babadook mysteriously ends up in their home, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature that haunts his nightmares. The visions of him then take an excessive turn, becomes more and more unpredictable and violent. Amelia is slowly starting to feel a malevolent presence around her and realizes that Samuel’s warnings may not just be hallucinations …

Mr. Babadook is one of those films that ignites the debate among horror cinema fans, like a Witch Blair Project. Some don’t understand what’s disturbing when others see it the exorcist of his generation. On a personal basis, I will simply tell you this anecdote: I drag myself a phobia of the dark from the night I looked at it. Just that.

When in doubt, director Jennifer Kent’s film is not to be put in everyone’s hands. As long as you are sensitive to ghostly presences present in a corner of the roomTo the large deformed bodies And attacks of dementia in horror movies … Don’t look at it alone.

For others: the first time we see Mr. Babadook is an exceptional experience, visceral, sublime and terrifying. We might as well live it one evening on October 31st.

Inheritance (Ari Aster, 2018)

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, dies, her family finds out increasingly terrifying secrets about his lineage. A inheritance left from which it seems impossible to escape.

The passionate horror probably won’t be surprised to learn ThatInheritance wins the title of scariest movie of this classification.

body horrorstories of ghostsmacabre scenery, sequences of dementias, visions nightmare child, terrifying: summing up all the reasons they makeInheritance a nightmare almost a challenge. What we guarantee is that in addition to a good slice of terror, so is the film by Ari Aster Chef a masterpiece as rarely seen. The originality of its staging corresponds only to its ability to surprise and the depth of the themes to which it addresses, starting with mourning, sectarian temptation, sense of guilt, mental health or even family love …

Between us, it is in my opinion best movie to watch on halloween night.
