Ivan Urgant

In an interview with StarHit, actor Sergei Svetlakov supported showman Ivan Urgant amid a wave of criticism directed at him for his political position: Urgant publicly spoke out against the Russian military special operation in Ukraine.

Sergei Svetlakov noted that Urgant’s criticism was unjustified. After Ivan Urgant spoke out against the Russian Federation’s military special operation in Ukraine in February, his program “Evening Urgant” disappeared from the air of Channel One. According to the official version, it was removed from the broadcast network due to the rejection of entertainment programs in a difficult period for the country.

Later, it was suspected that Urgant emigrated from Russia and went to Israel. In addition, news appeared in the media that Urgant was planning foreign tours. The showman himself denied all these rumors.

Many of his colleagues who supported the Russian military special operation in Ukraine spoke out against him harshly, and the deputies even suggested that he be dismissed for “anti-Russian activities”. But some supported him or did not see anything terrible in his actions. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said he “does not see him as an enemy of Russia”.
