The collective “Pas de bébés à la consigne” called on early childhood professionals to strike on Thursday 6 October to protest the working conditions that they no longer allow them to host children in optimal conditions. The unions are calling for an increase in wages and the opening of additional places in training centers.
No children in the set!
Yesterday, early childhood professionals marched across France to demand better working conditions. Currently, the early childhood sector suffers from an unprecedented staff shortage. According to a survey conducted by the Caisse Nationale d’Allocations Familiales in July, 48.6% of nurseries are understaffed.
To remedy this deficiency, a decree published on July 29 authorized hiring unskilled candidates in nursery schools. This measure, which devalues early childhood professions, does not pass. Professionals ask for its repeal and instead ask for a salary increase and the opening of places in training centers.
Nurseries are not just nurseries
The decree of 29 July sends a very clear message: the reception of small children does not require any particular qualification.
This received idea is not new. In 2008, Xavier Darcos, then Minister of National Education, e very visibly born before shameShe said:
Is it really logical, when we are so worried about the correct use of the funds delegated by the state, that we pass the bac + 5 contests for people whose function will be essentially to take a nap for the children or to change their diapers?
Whereas the role of a childcare assistant or EJE is limited to cleaning dirty little buttocks a complete misunderstanding of the many intellectual, physical and emotional needs of children under the age of three. A lack of knowledge that compromises the correct development of the youngest and leads many professionals to Burnout.
