Can clothes influence creativity? Meeting with the artist and actress Claire Romain

Claire Romain, artist, actress and inspirational muse of the Dockers brand, told me about the clothes she wears and their impact on her creative process.

I met Claire Romain, actress of the series Here it all begins, broadcast on TF1. Navigating between cinema and art, she told me about her relationship with clothes and the challenges she encounters on a daily basis.

Beyond her work as an actress, Claire is the face of the Dockers brand. A prêt-à-porter brand whose watchwords are freedom and comfort. The brand wants to carry the voice of adventurous women, embodying the free spirit. You will understand, Claire Romain was an obvious choice.

Performing art is liberating

It is from an early age that Claire Romain took her first steps on stage. Naturally shy when she was younger, her father encouraged her to start acting. She was then six years old. Twenty years later, she sees in comedy a way to break free from her constraints and go beyond her limits:

“I believe that the theater also allows you not to take your head and to have a certain freedom. I often come back to this, but I think it’s important to feel comfortable with yourself. And the theater brought me this letting go. “

Claire Romain is not limited to a single artistic field

Recognized primarily for her acting talent, Claire Romain isn’t just pictured on a television screen. Modeling, music, set design: Claire is a true multimedia artist, but it is in painting that he flourishes most :

I have several creative passions and they all come together. But, for me, it’s mostly painting. I have done some exhibitions in Paris and New York, internationally

Claire Romain

More than just a hobby, painting is an important part of his life. Claire was introduced to her manual arts from her childhood by her mother, herself a costume designer. You first practiced ceramics and ceramics, before discovering drawing and painting.

It’s funny because I used to do hyperfigurative art, and in fact today I find myself much more in the abstract. It is like a form of meditation and freedom

He draws inspiration from the world of painting and cinema.

Claire’s first sources of inspiration are family, especially her sister, mother and grandmother whom she describes as independent and very strong women.

From a more pictorial point of view, she draws a lot of inspiration from the work of Helen Frankenthaler, a painter of the abstract expressionism movement. She used a lot of colors, she traveled a lot and Claire recognizes herself in her works.

On a theatrical and cinematographic level, it is the art of Yórgos Lánthimos that challenges his imagination:

He is a director who has inspired me a lot. I find him very disturbing in his work and in his mastery of the game, he deals with controversial topics. In his film Canine, for example, the use of words is not what we are used to. There is a form of freedom in his art that moved me a lot

“If I had to define Dockers in one word, I would say Freedom, la liberté”

For Claire, it is through everyday clothes the feeling of being free is created. Creativity, imagination and ability to move are linked:

This is what you learn in the theater: body expression starts with your clothes. To give a concrete example, if I wear heels and a top that compresses me, I will not be able to squat. I will not be able to perform a basic but essential movement

Claire Romain

Whether it’s for her professional life, or to be fully realized and inspired by her art, she needs clothes that give her complete freedom of movement, but which she can hang out with. That’s why Claire loves working with Dockers.

The clothes she likes to wear must allow her both to be comfortable and free when she paints, and to go out at night. A perfect mix of comfort and style.

“I think it is the cuts and materials used that make the garment suitable for different circumstances. When I paint or when I go to events “

Claire Romain

The clothes ultimately have a direct impact on Claire’s daily life, a life punctuated by art in all its forms. You would have understood, Claire Romain is a versatile and multimedia artistwho is not afraid to venture into worlds that go beyond his everyday life.
