An Ifop survey conducted for the Sleepyz.fr website reveals that it is mainly mothers who get up at night to take care of their children. This study does not surprise anyone and only confirms what we already knew: parental equality is still far, far ahead of us.
Who gets up at night when babies (and children) cry?
As part of a study conducted for the Sleepyz.fr website, Ifop questioned 1,001 parents of children under the age of 3 about sleep management and the distribution of nocturnal chores. And the answer is surprising. No, absolutely no. Unsurprisingly, 78% of mothers get up more often than their partner and 44% even get up on their own. This is almost half of the women.
Mothers are also much quicker to react when they cry (4.5 minutes versus 8 minutes for men). And if we were to have proof that many men prioritize their comfort and openly don’t care about our apple, here it is: 55% of them have already pretended to sleep, hoping their partner will get up. .

The heterosexual couple, this bastion of inequality
The issue of sleep is a recurring reason for conflict and 66% of couples say they have already discussed it. However, the study shows that these conflicts have nothing to do with differences of opinion and are, on the contrary, based on proven and unfortunately common inequalities.
Even when couples set up a rotation system, in this case they are 63%, only 25% of women believe that the distribution is balanced. Very often they end up getting up even when it’s not their turn.
This survey clearly illustrates the inequalities that still exist within heterosexual families. No offense for those who are offended when we dare to say that, IF, in 2022 mothers still do much more than fathers.
