“It’s the only time I do it”: Bilal Hassani speaks for the first time about the rape he suffered

In an interview on the 7 to 8 show, Bilal Hassani confided about his childhood, but also spoke for the first time about a rape he would suffer in 2019, after being drugged without his knowledge.

“My art helps me heal my wounds”. It was during a particularly strong interview with journalist Audrey Crespo-Mara that singer Bilal Hassani surrendered this Sunday, on the 7 to 8 show on TF1.

His childhood and the inevitable protection and support of his mother, the harassment he suffered at school, but also that of years later on Youtube, or when he represented France at Eurovision in 2019.

It’s something that haunts me “: Bilal Hassani says he was drugged without his knowledge

This interview was also an opportunity to talk about an event that happened that same year, which the young artist had never told openly about:

“It’s something that has haunted me since the year it happened, it was 2019. Someone in my circle, someone I trusted. We left in the evening, I went home with him. I had drunk, 2-3 glasses, but I didn’t feel what it feels like to drink 2-3 glasses, I was clearly under the influence of a substance I didn’t want to take. ”

After several “blackout” which may have been caused by chemical submission, Bilal Hassani claims he had several brief moments of consciousness and was raped.

“I woke up the next morning and he was in my bed, I didn’t understand why. I said to myself “don’t ask questions, don’t say anything, go on, go on”. “

Probably drugged without knowing it, Bilal Hassani was deeply affected by this experience. He explained his willingness not to file a complaint, like other victims of sexual violence. In his case, it was the fear of seeing a new wave of hatred emerging for him that motivated this decision.

“I couldn’t. I couldn’t talk about it in public and there, it’s the only time I’ll do it. I didn’t want to give another thread to feed the hatred I receive. In fact, what would have happened if I had filed a complaint would have known fairly quickly and would have become the topic. “

A title from his next album, Theorem, should evoke this sexual assault. It will be released on October 7th.
