A new Television Academy report was released on Friday that examines its members’ experiences with diversity, equity and inclusion practices in the industry. The industry data report, created in partnership with ReadySet, expands the academy’s findings, which were released in 2021.
The findings include improvements that have been made in many areas of focus, although the industry still has a long way to go. For example, gender and racial / ethnic representation have increased, but members of marginalized communities still perceive insufficient representation, particularly among those with marginalized identities.
This same group reported significantly more disruptive and exclusionary experiences in their workplaces, including micro-aggression and bullying, than non-marginalized members; Insufficient compensation too. They also lost job opportunities due to perceived problems with DEI. Furthermore, the group reported that only a small percentage perceive that influential measures have been taken to advance the treatment of FDI problems at work and in industry.
In addition to publishing the report, the academy also announced plans to host a DEI Summit on 1 December as part of its commitment to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable sector.
“This report will help shape important conversations aimed at developing actionable initiatives at the December meeting.
