Since I returned from vacation abroad, I want to drop everything to go back

Do you have questions? Daronne has the answers! (Yeah well, that’s not necessarily the best advice, but she does what she can, huh.) Welcome to this new episode of our hearted mail like no other.

The question for Daronne

Dear Daronne

I had a great solo trip this summer and fell in love with Mexico. The landscapes, the people, the food, the atmosphere, I liked everything and saw myself living there. I almost did not return, but in the end I had to, but this idea does not leave me and I dream of returning to live there. My boyfriend, my job, my friends (even them) all seem a little boring since I got back.

Tell me, what do I do? Should I give up everything or ignore this desire?

Daronne’s answer

My teaspoon of royal jelly,

Ah bah yes, bah, obviously, it’s a classic. This syndrome also has a name: EDPV or Post Vacation Depressive State. Well, I coined the term, but I’m sure if I took my idea to WHO, they would immediately add EDPV to the list of syndromes that are rotting our times.

It’s a good sign that you don’t really want to go home after a vacation. It means that we had a good laugh and that we were able to disconnect from a daily life that has still been very rotten for many of us in recent years. Traveling abroad can be wonderful: the culture, the change of scenery, the food, the panties or underpants of a human being met on the spot, create beautiful memories to warm their hearts on winter evenings.

So how do you know if your post-holiday blues is normal or if it shows a real need for change?

Beware of the imagination!

Here it is, I’ll do my spoilsport. But hey, you already know what I’m about to advise you: before you act, take some time to think. WOW, WHAT A ORIGINAL AND STATE-OF-THE-ART ADVICE! I know I’m not inventing hot water, but someone has to focus on remembering the basics.

To begin with, pay attention to the fantasy that would make Mexico a land of abundance where everything would be simpler and more authentic. First of all it’s really bad for its inhabitants, who don’t care if not to act as a fetish for Europeans in need of authenticity, and then you risk making a big mess because the wonderful atmosphere of El Dorado, Smurfs country, which only exists … Only in the imagination of Europeans in need of authenticity.

Really living somewhere is totally different than staying there for a vacation (NO SHIT SHERLOCK). We have material obligations, bills piling up and no one holding us by the hand, because the truth is that usually when we land in a new place, we are often alone like an old dog on the street and this picture is not even correct as dogs surely he has many more bastard friends than someone who arrives in a foreign country without knowing anyone.

Going to the other side of the world, and settling in the country of your dreams, I say: why not, you only have one life. But it is best to analyze this desire before running.

Is it a crisis or a real desire?

So, here, you want to leave everything and I want to ask you: why? Sure, I understand that your destination place has had a lot of effect on you, my squirming little whiting, but what’s really going on at home that you don’t want to go back there?

Attention! I’m not saying you have a shit life worth questioning. Many people with perfectly satisfying lives get the blues when they return to the office after a few weeks of adventure. Fortunately, in these cases, a few weeks are enough to rediscover the taste of everyday life.

But if the very idea of setting foot in your apartment, or finding your partner, or your friends, or your colleagues, leads you to despair, it can be a sign that something deserves to be improved on a daily basis. . What would you need to feel better? New hobbies, activism, political commitment, professional or romantic changes … There are solutions to make sense of your life without leaving everything behind and it is not always necessary to go to the other side of the world to be happy.

Do you really want to go there? Well then go!

And then sometimes it’s love at first sight, death by chaos. You weighed the pros and cons, took stock, thought and rethought, it is always this country and nothing else that lights up your heart. If so, what do you want me to tell you, if you like it, you like this place.

Do I recommend that you drop everything overnight? No, not yet, sorry. But don’t panic, I still encourage you to organize your departure intelligently.

Find out more, join groups of foreigners living there, look at the price of the rent, the job opportunities, then set up a long-term plan to leave in good condition … This will allow you to put all the possibilities on your side to enjoy the experience once there.

Come on, I’ll leave you, I’m moving to Sartre next week,
