exclusive: Director Ben Corey Jones (black spartans) signed to represent Cultivate Entertainment Partners.
Jones is a writer, director and producer best known for co-producing the hit HBO series Issa Rae. Unreliable and co-creating the BET series boomerang With Lena Waithe. She has also written for shows such as The games that people play (wager), subway (OWN) and Ben Watkins a man’s hand (Amazon) and is currently preparing to direct his first film black spartanswhich will go into production in Atlanta this fall.
Exploring the explosive era of the mid-1960s, when social upheaval paved the way for a new order in college football, black spartans Tell the story of the first fully integrated college football team. The film, starring Neal McDonough and Casey Cote, is inspired by the Michigan State Spartans trained by Duffy Daugherty, who changed the face of sport forever. Jones will direct and produce his screenplay.
