Universal Studios Hollywood hit by power outage, guests removed from some rides

LAFD application updated: Some visitors to Universal Studios Hollywood today have electricity, no doubt the result, at least in part, of Los Angeles’ record temperatures.

Eleven people were rescued while transporting transformers after being trapped. Los Angeles County firefighters were called to rescue passengers after the ride lost power and went dormant around 3:45 pm, the department said in a statement.

The cyclists were rescued around 6pm and no one was injured.

A Hollywood spokesperson for Universal Studios told Deadline:

Following the So Cal Edison power outage, we experienced a brief power outage that caused visitors to abandon some attractions. Power has been fully restored and we are working to bring the remaining attractions back online. The theme park is open.

ABC7 reported that the park’s two most popular attractions have been hit: the Transformers and Harry Potter rides (it’s unclear which).

According to Weather.com, temperatures in the train car reached a high of 96 degrees today, after 3pm.

Meanwhile, heat records have fallen in the south, with usually cool Long Beach burning at 100 degrees and LAX 95. The heat is undoubtedly stressing the power grid. According to the National Weather Service, the high temperature will remain until tomorrow.
