How 2000s Fashion Differs from McBling Style (and Why We All Afraid of the Second One’s Return)

The fashion of the 2000s finally and irrevocably came into its own: cargo pants and lace-up tops of all kinds, now we see it all the time. But the Y2K style is a core value with several branches. And the most colorful wave of them – the aesthetic, codenamed McBling – is now actively gaining popularity and claims to be the main trend of the coming season. And yes, that’s the comeback we’ve all been afraid of – the worst dream of the 2000s has finally come true.

McBling can be attributed to all that plush Juicy Couture suits and pink Motorola splurges – the craziest role of the 2000s lies before us. In simple words, this is the fashion of trinkets. From 2003 to 2008, during McBling’s reign, glamor took its rosiest turns: miniskirts turned into an extreme mini, sequins flooded absolutely all accessories, and velvet suits became classic red carpet uniforms.

The names of those who popularized the aesthetic lie on the surface. Among them are Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Missy Eliot, Ashley Tisdale and more, who are not afraid to stand out. They wore the most colorful clothes of PINK, Victoria’s Secret, Baby Phat and Playboy brands with prints in the spirit of “I love shoes, bags and boys”. Not without a dash of luxury – the same, less colorful Louis Vuitton bags, for example.

By the way, the paparazzi culture familiar to us was born at that time – photographers caught stars not only on the walls of the press, but also on the streets or at the exits from coffee shops. Digital photography and the desire to rip off a privileged part of yourself are ingrained in everyone’s life – just revisit the first seasons of Gossip Girl and see it all for yourself.

In our realities, Bella Hadid can rightly be called the ambassador of McBling’s second wind – at least take her latest expansion to tattoo trends with rhinestones. Of course, the “classic” Y2K fashion is still a more wearable and practical story, but no one bothers to pick your Motorola off the dusty shelves or buy the same plush suit. By the way, not so long ago, the aforementioned brand Juicy Couture presented a new combination of towels in a very modern way.
