The BFI has appointed Louisa Ortega as executive director of production and development.
Ortega has had roles with companies such as See-Saw Films, Vertigo Films, and Slim Film and Television. At BFI, you will work on both development and production funds, accepting applications, advising on funding decisions, and providing practical creative production support for directors. His portfolio will focus on debuts.
He will report to Natasha Wharton, the foundation’s editorial director, and will work with senior executive Christine Irving, as well as chief editor Lizzie Franke and development executives Aoif Hayes and Phoebe Sutherland. This role was replaced by Farhana Bhula, who joined Film4 earlier this year.
Mia Bays, Director of the BFI Film Fund, said: “I am thrilled to join Louise, who will bring extensive experience and a drive to build a film fund team. She has established a true specialty in developing writers and storytellers who will be invaluable to us, the team and of course the directors we support.
Louisa Ortega added: “I couldn’t be more excited to join the great team led by Mia Bays at the BFI Film Fund, which I think is an exciting time for cinema. The film is more important than ever, in this new story that we are experiencing, connecting and reflecting on ourselves.
