The trailer for the series “Blonde”, which was released after new footage from the shooting, caused a storm of criticism on social networks. Some commentators are dissatisfied with the accent of Ana de Armas, who played the role of Marilyn Monroe in the biopic directed by Andrew Dominic. So much criticism came that the head of the company, which owns the rights to Monroe’s images and property, had to raise her voice in defense of the Cuban actress.

After the premiere of the trailer, the networks began to write that Ana has very vulgar pronunciation, which does not make her convincing in the role of a cult movie star. Twitter user Cinemanerd21 asks:

Another user, gowithryanPhoto, agrees:

Users note that Monroe is famous for her soft timbre, which, among other things, is longing for “signature”, but Ana, according to many, failed to convey this.

Mark Rosen, one of the leaders of the Authentic Brands Group (ABG), which owns the rights to Marilyn Monroe’s legacy and played a role in deciding the candidacy of the lead actress, spoke about the criticism.

De Armas previously told the press that he had been working on his pronunciation for a long time before filming “Blonde”:

De Armas was born in Cuba and spent his early childhood. At the age of 11, the family moved to the United States, but soon returned to her homeland, where Ana studied acting and made her debut on the screen. She starred in Spain for a long time and started her career in Hollywood at the age of 26 and soon became famous thanks to the movie Knives Out and her relationship with Ben Affleck. In a recent interview, the role of Monroe was entrusted to Cuban de Armas, calling it a “breakthrough”.

“Blonde” will be released on Netflix at the end of September. The film will be screened at the Venice Film Festival.
