Wednesday 20 July the Council of Ministers voted the renewal of Dominique Boutonnat to the direction of National Center for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC). His appointment comes when the 52-year-old producer is sued for sexual assault on his godson.
Accused of sexual assault by his godson
In October 2020, Dominique Boutonnat’s godson filed a complaint for sexual violence. At the age of 22, the complainant recounted events that allegedly took place in August 2020 during a holiday in Greece. Dominique Boutonnat’s lawyer stated that the latter “firmly disputes all the facts”. The director of the CNC has been indicted February 2021.
July 18 the collective 50/50 has published a letter addressed to the new Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak. The association reminded the minister of the need to propose a name other than that of Dominique Boutonnant, qualifying “impossible” its renewal. The collective yes detailed at each stage of the case until March 31, 2022, date on which the court asked for the sentence of the president of the CNC.
