The Baby Bed Braid: Okay, it’s cute, but that’s a big no

The cot braids are popping up everywhere. But like the more classic bed bumpers, they are just as little recommended.

They are everywhere. In the Instagram stories of influencers who have children, in childcare shops, in YouTube tutorials to make them yourself …

Still, they are dangerous for children and shouldn’t be used.

The braids of the bed and the risk of suffocation

Bed braids, these cute decorative items that go around cribs to prevent the baby from bumping into bars, have been very popular in recent years.

If they are acceptable, from the point of view of safety, in the beds of older children (not earlier than 3 years old) they can be dangerous, even fatal for the little ones.

In fact, just like bed bumpers, these fabric panels that cling to the bars of the bed to prevent little heirs from getting stuck legs and arms, bed braids can cause suffocation if the child gets stuck underneath and fails to go out.

In an American study, published in 2015 in the Journal of Pediatrics, it was shown that bumpers put babies at greater risk of infant mortality, and that they run the risk of suffocation and asphyxiation produced by the presence of an obstacle in front of the respiratory tract.

With bed braids, it’s the same thing.

Baby bed: only the bare minimum

Put simply, a baby, in order to sleep safely, does not need much in his bed: a firm mattress and a sleeping bag to suit his size, while lying on his back. That’s all. No duvet, no pillow, no blanket, no bed railing, bed braid, bed canopy, baby wedge, multiple stuffed animals and a latest PS5 model.

Everything else is superfluous and can be dangerous.

If you still want to break your A booklet and buy this beautiful item, you can use it in other ways as well: along a wall to define the play area, around the activity mat (as supervision by parents or caregivers is feasible in moments when the precious heir is on it), or even at the sling, if you like to have a big thing around your neck (everyone does what they want in terms of dress style).

But in any case, around the bed, it is frankly not recommended.
